Autonomous vehicles in the city of the future

Autonomous vehicles are going to change dramatically the urban environment. The move from human-driven to autonomous cars is likely to have a significant impact not only on the mobility system but on multiple aspects of the future urban society.

Autonomous vehicles are already starting to hit our roads and they have the potential to become a major catalyst for urban transformation and to make cities more livable, sustainable, equitable, and just. However, without the right approach by the actors involved, they might bring unexpected and undesired outcomes.

This presentation looks at the current state of the art of autonomous vehicles and explores possible future scenarios, investigating opportunities and threats associated with their incumbent arrival in our cities.
